We’ll show you how to make a quilt block with sweet sunshine design. This block is a great way to practise your curved piecing and Foundation Paper Piecing, and you’ll find making it is a doddle with Lynne’s step-by-step instructions and illustrated figures along the way.

You will need

• One (1) fat eighth of fabric for each of the yellow quarter circles
• One (1) fat quarter of fabric for the background
• Download our Free foundation paper piecing quilt block pattern

Notes

• Finished size = 12½in square (12in square once pieced into quilt)
• A fat eighth is approximately 9in x 22in
• Press all fabrics before cutting
• Use a ¼in seam throughout
• Shorten your stitch length for foundation paper piecing
• We’ve used Daydreams fabric by Kate Spain for Moda in our example

Lynne Goldsworthy is a modern British quilter who over blogs at Lily’s Quilts (so called because her Welsh husband calls her Lily). She’s a prolific quilt designer and co-founder of The Thread House. Her work is regularly featured in Today’s Quilter and Love Patchwork and Quilting magazines. She’s authored books including 500 Quilt Blocks and Quick & Easy Quilts and co-edited Fat Quarterly E-zine. Sewing since she was a little child, on a business trip to America she fell in love with American quilts and tried her hand at the craft. Then life and family happened and she didn’t pick up another one for a few years, until she discovered Flickr, blogs and online shopping, and immediately ordered some pre-cuts, started her own blog and has never looked back!
