Free patchwork placemat pattern: DIY your Christmas table!

Have the best laid Christmas table in the neighbourhood with our fun napery projects, designed and made by Lynette Anderson with help from Donna Brabant. These simple placemats look great as a matching set, or mix and match prints for a fun and eclectic Christmas table. They’re quick to sew and quilt and you get to play around with fussy cutting and appliqué to add the festive finishing touches. A top tip from Lynette is to cut your fusible web slightly larger than the detail you want to fussy cut. Iron it to the wrong side of the print before cutting out the shape.

Fabric requirements

• Cream checked tonal print – 25in x WOF
• Red checked tonal print – 12½in x WOF
• Feature print to fussy-cut circles for appliqué
• Binding fabric (green spot print) – 15in x WOF
• Batting – four (4) 14½in x 19½in pieces
• Backing fabric (multi-star print on cream) – 1yd
• Fusible web such as Soft Fuse or Vliesofix
